- You will need a rental car when you arrive, so just stay in your car at the Safeway parking lot. You can shower at the beach.
- Well, it all depends upon the island you visit. I live on Kauai and in order to camp here, you have to have a permit. They are about $5/night and you never know when they'll check, so you really should have one for each night of your stay. I've listed websites below to help you get your camping permits. Aloha!
- The YMCA has some campgrounds and dorm facilities. On Maui, the campground at Keanae, about halfway down the road to Hana, has an amazing view. Camp Erdman, on the North Shore of Oahu at Mokuleia, is in another gorgeous spot--and one of the locations for the TV series "Lost". I couldn't find any mention of tent camping at their site, but they do have cabins available. Some of the campsites close a day or two per week to discourage people from making it a permanent lifestyle. Probably hundreds of working people do while our economy suffers but housing costs remain exorbitant here in Hawaii.
- u can go to like timberline...but u might get attacked by a mongoose.... u can go to erdman....but then u could get eaten by a shark....
- I don't know what you're definition of "nice" is... but it's pretty hard to get 'nice,' for 'cheap,' in Hawaii. I'm not sure about camping, but there are some pretty cheap hotels in hawaii. Big Isand - Uncle Billys http://www.magical-hawaii.com/Hawaii-Hotels.html Maui - Maui Seaside Hotel, / and Maui Beach Hotel http://www.magical-hawaii.com/Maui-Hotels.html Oahu - Ohana Maile Sky Court, / The Royal Grove / and Queen Kapiolani Hotel http://www.magical-hawaii.com/Hotels-In-Oahu.html If you really want to camp, go for it! But these are all under a hundred dollars... some as low as 40 - 50 dollars.. Good Luck! And have a great time in Hawaii!
- There are many public campgrounds, but you need a permit. There are a few private campgrounds. I like the one at Malaekahana. Here is a link: http://www.malaekahana.net/ This site can give you info on how to apply for a permit: http://www.alternative-hawaii.com/accom/occsp.htm
